Happiness
is where we find it, but rarely where we seek it. For
ages happiness has been represented as a huge precious stone, impossible
to find, which people seek for hopelessly. It is not so ; happiness is
a mosaic, composed of a thousand little stones, which separately and of
themselves have little value, but which united with art form a graceful
design.
We are no longer happy, so soon as we wish to be happier.
Our
minds are as different as our faces: we all want to travel to one destination;
--happiness; but we're not all going by the same road. The
sunshine of life is made up of very little beams that are bright all the
time.
Who
is the happiest man? He who is alive to the merit of others, and can rejoice
in their enjoyment as if it were his own.
Great effort from great motives is the best definition of a happy life.
Never
give way to melancholy. Nothing encroaches more. I fight against it vigorously.
One great remedy is, to take short views of life. Are you happy now ?
Are you likely to remain so till tomorrow or next month, or next year
? Then why destroy present happiness by a distant misery which may never
come at all, or you may never live to see ? For every substantial grief
has twenty shadows, and many of them shadows of your own making. A
happy person is not a person in a certain Happiness consists, not in possessing much, but in being content with what we possess. He who wants little always has enough. Zimmermann The
happiness of life is made up of minute fractions— the little soon-forgotten
charities of a kiss, a smile, a kind look, a heartfelt compliment in the
disguise of a playful raillery, and the countless other infinitessimals
of pleasurable thought and genial feeling. A
happy disposition is largely a disposition to make others happy. One life
permeates all things, and there is no corner of the cosmos too remote
to feel its heart throb. To
be secure, be humble. To be happy, be content.
Money
never made a man happy yet, nor will it. There is nothing in its nature
to produce happiness. The more a man has, the more he wants. Instead of
its filling a vacuum, it makes one. If it satisfies one want, it doubles
and trebles that want another way. Happy
the man, and happy he alone,
What are the aims which are at the same time duties? They are the perfecting
of ourselves, the happiness of others.
The rays of happiness, like those of light, are colorless when unbroken. The
hour of happiness will be the more welcome,
To
love and to be loved is the greatest happiness of existence.
Since
you get more joy out of giving joy to others,
